Why this archive exists

Chat Control 1.0 makes scanning voluntary. That one word moves the entire question out of law and into corporate policy: each provider decides, and the decision surfaces — if it surfaces anywhere — as a quiet edit to a privacy policy, a security page, or an App Store label.

Quiet edits have a property that matters: they can only be caught by someone who recorded the page before. A baseline of 26 July 2026 can only be taken on 26 July 2026. Wait a year, and the evidence of what companies said today is gone.

So the archive records every day: 87 documents and 25 App Store privacy labels across 31 platforms, snapshotted at 06:17 UTC, committed to a public git history, with the Internet Archive asked to capture changed sources the same day. Observations, not conclusions — and every claim linked to what it stands on.
